Hi guys! This post will hopefully legitimately be a quick update for the last week!
On Saturday I went out, as planned, with friends from German Learning Class, and we explored through a town that one of them lives in. It was a really beautiful town on the ocean, with an old antique European feel to it. It was filled with little pathways weaving between old houses and ivy creeping lazily down the walls and fences. And every once in a while, the old houses and pathways and the slope of the land leading to the sea would all work in your favour and you would get a magnificent view of the ocean. It was the perfect day to do this, too, as the sky was bright blue and it was (almost) warm. And I, being the forgetful person I am, of course did not take any photos of that.
We had an awesome time, though, and took some photos of ourselves as a group. Overall - lots of fun!
Since then, we have been trying to arrange for us all to get together once more, but all of our schedules just don't seem to line up. Oh well. (:
Sunday morning I got up with the sun and had a quick small filler breakfast before I left the house, because I was going to the Fischmarkt (fish market)- and even though I don't always enjoy fish, I was determined to eat some of Hamburgs famed Fischmarkt fish. I took the train to the Reeperbahn (not for the Reeperbahn, don't worry - it is simply the closest train station to the Fischmarkt). I realized promptly that I had no clue how to get there, and as I was looking up Google Maps directions, a group of people surfaced from the subway, looking breathless from the steps, and most of them also looked clueless about where to go. But a few people charged to the front and the group started walking away. I followed my maps directions for a bit, but realized eventually that it seemed we were all headed in the same direction and just decided to join the crowd. And I was right (thankfully)! When we arrived at the FIschmarkt the group dissipated and I went off on my own (I don't even think they realized I was with them, now that I look back on it). The fish market was fantastic! I have never seen something like it before - and I will make certain that I go at least once more before I return to Canada! As I wandered the aisles of the market, vendors were calling out into the crowd, boisterously advertising their cheap fruits, chocolates, fish, or other products. Everyone was so friendly, and the people seemed larger than life, nice, and outgoing. I did get to try some fish, and it was actually really good! There was only one problem. The lady asked me if I wanted a garlic sauce or a lemon sauce on my fish (it is in a bun). I automatically replied with "Garlic, please", and the lady absolutely slathered the fish with this sauce. And normally, it would have been great - in fact, it was great, I would totally recommend it! It was just that I was left a little scarred from the garlic bread incident I mentioned a few posts earlier! But it tasted nonetheless good!
My week since then has been fairly quiet. I have been reading 1984 in my spare moments, and also trying to do some catch up on German Learning, since I am hoping I will be allowed to rejoin the class more often when school restarts on Monday. I have been doing some exploring, but not much has resulted of it. But I am fine with that, it has been a good time. On Tuesday or Wednesday I decided that, yes I still needed to do some German learning, but that I wanted a change in location. So I hopped on a train and found a small cafe, which was unexpectedly hipster - in a really cool way - and ordered a hot chocolate, and finished the days work there. It made for a great evening!
And yesterday I went to the Deichtorhalle here in Hamburg (I don't know what that translates to, sorry). It is an art museum, and the display I saw was showcasing German youths photography - but it was all really good photography! The building is free, as far as I know, for people my age(16)and under to visit (but maybe also for people a little older. I am not certain). Anyways, it is definitely worth a visit, and not only is the photography great, but the building itself has a really cool interior architecture (if that is not a word, then it is now) that might be worth visiting just for that. I took photos, but they're only allowed to be used for personal use - which means I can't post them here.
And yeah, that summarizes things up pretty well for me, I think.
And I have already wished them happy birthdays before here, but I just want to give a shout out to my Mom and my sister, who both had birthdays since my last post! I hope you guys had good ones!
I hope everyone is doing well - and I will hopefully be back with another post soon.
Until then!
